PDO, Sultanate of Oman:

A comprehensive study of alternative disposal procedures for oil field production water was undertaken to find an alternative to costly conventional deep injection methods. The study encompassed a thorough bibliographical search, development of five alternatives, a screening of cost evaluations, choice of the most promising alternative, and development of conceptual design for pilot-scale tests and full scale implementation. A complete risk management approach was prepared.

Environmental Management, Chile:

A needs definition mission which resulted in an official request to the Swiss Cooperation Agency for assistance in dealing with the global environmental risk management of one of Chile's major cities was undertaken. Negotiating the objectives of the risk mitigation project with the city council and defining public image goals to restore a pleasant atmosphere for tourism to the city were two of the major aspects of the mission.

Coal Mines in Santa Caterina, Brasil:

A group of Brazilian scientists was lead through the first phases of a risk assessment on a region encompassing 29 properties (20 abandoned, 9 operational). Severe ARD and health hazards are major concerns in this region.
